Revising for GCSE Science can feel overwhelming, but with the right approach, you can ace your exams! As an experienced science teacher, I've seen what works (and what doesn't). Here are my top 10 revision tips:
1. Start Early - Don't Cram Begin revising at least 8-10 weeks before your exams. Little and often beats marathon cramming sessions every time. Today, you are right within thin window!
2. Use Active Recall Don't just re-read notes! Test yourself with retrieval practice questions to actually remember the content.
3. Master the Required Practicals Know all 10 Biology, 8 Chemistry, and 10 Physics required practicals inside out. They WILL come up in your exam.
4. Learn the Command Words "Describe" vs "Explain" vs "Evaluate" - knowing what the question is asking is half the battle!
5. Practice Calculations Daily Do at least 5 calculation questions every day. Speed and accuracy come with practice.
6. Create a Revision Timetable Plan which topics you'll cover each week. Tick them off as you go - it's motivating!
7. Use Specification Checklists Track your progress through every topic on the AQA specification. Don't leave gaps!
8. Do Past Papers Under Exam Conditions Time yourself. No notes. Mark honestly. Learn from mistakes.
9. Focus on Your Weak Topics It's tempting to revise what you're good at, but target your weakest areas for maximum grade improvement.
10. Take Breaks! Your brain needs rest. Use the Pomodoro technique: 25 minutes work, 5 minutes break - especially as an ADHDer, this is essential for my concentration.
